A star-shaped Kakatiya temple in Hanumakonda dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Surya, built in the 12th century.
History
The temple was built in the 12th century under the Kakatiya king Rudra Deva. It is a trikutalaya, with three shrines dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Surya, and an inscription on site records its construction.
Architecture
The temple sits on a raised star-shaped platform and is known for its many richly carved pillars, a large monolithic Nandi, and black basalt sculpture.
Cultural significance
One of the finest examples of early Kakatiya architecture and a centre of festivals such as Maha Shivaratri and Bathukamma celebrations in the city.
